Environmental study to investigate possible impacts of a proposed mine. Tasks involved field sediment sampling, hydrological modelling of sediment yield, sediment transport modelling by 2D model and possible mitigation measures.

Orange River at Bokpoort: river abstraction works design, South Africa (2023)

Flood hydrology, field work related to sediment, topographical and bathymetric survey, 2D hydrodynamic modelling of the flow and sediment dynamics, identification of the best location of a new river abstraction works, and concept hydraulic design of a proposed river abstraction works.

Zandvlei Estuary mouth hydrodynamic modelling, South Africa (2023)

2D hydrodynamic modelling of the flood flow patterns at the proposed upgraded estuary mouth with rock revetments.

Empuluzi River Diversion works Hydraulic Design, South Africa (2023/24)

Concept hydraulic design of diversion works at a proposed weir in KZN for potable water supply to an off-channel dam, field work related to sedimentation, physical model study including sediment management.

Ash River erosion protection hydraulic design, South Africa (2023)

Site inspection, identification of the most critical riverbank erosion sites, flood hydrology update, 2D hydrodynamic modelling, concept hydraulic design of the proposed riprap erosion protection measures, quantities and preliminary costs for implementation during the planned 2024 LHWP transfer tunnel shut down for maintenance.

Sewage pumpstation design guidelines, South Africa (2023)

Literature review and development of hydraulic design guidelines for the design of sewage pumpstation to deal with sediment.
Client: City of Cape Town.

Indus Waters Treaty dispute related to reservoir sedimentation management - Neutral Expert proceedings, India (2023/24)

Reservoir sedimentation expert: review of previous studies on two run-of-river HPP dams in India constructed and planned),
with new hydrodynamic modelling of the sediment dynamics to evaluate the most feasible sedimentation mitigation measures.
Client: Indian Government.

Lower Thukela River abstraction upgrade preliminary design, South Africa (2023)

Concept hydraulic design to increase the river abstraction works capacity from 130 Ml/d to 260 Ml/d. Sediment management features include a boulder trap, gravel trap and pump settler canals.
2D hydrodynamic modelling carried out to evaluate the sediment dynamics at the intake and traps during floods.

Stettynskloof Dam on the Holsloot spillway raising 3D physical model, South Africa (2023/24)

Hydraulic physical model study at a scale of 1:40 to test the dam and spillway raising options of the current uncontrolled ogee spillway. Energy dissipation tests of the skijump and plungepool will be carried out.
